It’s Saturday morning and that can only mean one thing: wrestling fans countrywide are tuned into the USA Network to watch Todd Pettengill and the WWF Superstars on Mania! And not only is it Mania, but it’s the last WWF programming until the big In Your House 2: Seasons Beatings event on Pay Per View! We join Pettengill on a very Christmas themed set. Red and gold garland strung everywhere along with Christmas lights and the large monitor behind him playing video of a fireplace burning on loop. Todd smiles as he addresses everyone watching at home.
Todd Pettengill: Hello, everyone! And welcome back to WWF Mania! Now, over the course of the past few weeks Dustin Rhodes and The Outsiders have crossed paths over and over again. And it all started on the inaugural episode of Monday Night Raw!
Mania cuts to footage of the first ever Raw from Richmond, Virginia. It’s of Dustin Rhodes celebrating a big win over “The Million Dollar Man” Ted DiBiase as his father Dusty raises his hand high in the air victoriously, each man’s WWF tag team title belt draped proudly over their shoulders. The Natural’s music is cut short, however, as screams can be heard from Jim Ross, prompting production to cut to The Outsiders as they took good ole’ JR hostage, demanding a tag team title match with The Rhodes at Survivor Series! Even though The Rhodes would gladly grant them their request in return for Jim’s safety, the bastards still decided to put him through the announce table with a devastating Jacknife Powerbomb from “Big Sexy” Kevin Nash! We fade back into Pettengill.
Todd Pettengill: And with that the stage was set and there was not only the titles on the line but also vengeance for poor Jim Ross who laid in a hospital bed for an entire week due to the heinous actions of The Outsiders! Survivor Series would settle it all…
Production fades to footage from the tag team title match at Survivor Series. Dustin Rhodes and Scott Hall battle on the outside all through the ringside area trading punches left and right as the crowd eats it up. Meanwhile, as the ref is distracted trying to get Dustin and Hall back in the ring, Nash pulls a pair of brass knuckles out of his waistband and nails The American Dream dead in the center of his forehead, knocking him out and busting his wide open! Todd’s voice can be heard spliced in over the footage.
Todd Pettengill: What would happen next when an ill tempered Dustin Rhodes blamed his father for their loss and continued to betray his very own father with one of the most brutal beat downs I have ever seen in my life… it’s unspeakable and something we will NOT air on Mania today or any other day. EVER! Not to mention the vulgar language from The Natural. The Outsiders were on cloud nine as they not only claimed the titles but also witnessed the destruction of their greatest rivals in the span of five minutes. But that wouldn’t be all, fans. The next week on Monday Night Raw, the paths of Dustin Rhodes and The Outsiders would cross again!
Scott Hall: You ever danced with the devil in the pale moonlight?
Brief footage is shown from an encounter backstage on the Raw after Survivor Series between former tag champ Dustin Rhodes and the new kings of the tag team scene. Nash tries to reason with Dustin that they’re not all that different after all, he and The Outsiders - a comment that Dustin did not respond all that favorably to.
Todd Pettengill: Well fans, word from Concord, New Hampshire where the World Wrestling Federation held a special live event last night is that there has been yet ANOTHER encounter between The Natural and The Outsiders! This footage that we have, fans… it’s rough! We had a fan drop this by the studio that personally filmed this on his handheld camcorder, so please excuse the video quality as it was taped over footage from his wedding but what is shown you do NOT want to miss!!
We transition to the home video sent by a fan that was at the WWF show in Concord just last night. The bell dings as the referee raises the hands of Scott Hall and Kevin Nash high, their competitors for the night laid out cold, Chris Kanyon in the middle of the ring and Mark Starr outside the ring on the mat. Sitting ringside in the announce booth with Vince McMahon and Jerry “The King” Lawler is former tag team champion and one of the men Hall and Nash defeated to claim their titles, “The Natural” Dustin Rhodes. A young lady in a WWF staff shirt runs down the ramp and over to The Outsiders who have made it out of the ring and hands Hall what seems to be a t-shirt. They both look over towards the booth and Dustin Rhodes in particular, smirking. They walk over to where he sits and the two stare down Dustin Rhodes as he sits, almost burning a hole through the both of them with his eyes. Hall tosses the shirt over to Dustin, hitting him in the face with it. Dustin sees red, grabbing the shirt from off his face and balling it up in his fist.
Scott Hall: Calm down, kid. You just take a look at that and you think about it, huh?
Nash laughs, rubbing his thumb again his index and middle finger as he signals his favorite thing in the world - MONEY! Dustin scoffs and looks down at the shirt in his hand, opening it up out of view of the crowd and camera, quickly balling it back up.
Vince McMahon: Wh-... What was that? What’s on that shirt, Dustin?!
Dustin stares blankly off into the distance, ignoring the words of Vince McMahon as we fade back to Todd Pettengill in studio.
Todd Pettengill: Weird, huh? To say The Outsiders and Dustin Rhodes have had a rocky relationship since Hall and Nash arrived back in the WWF would be an understatement, but it seems now that the duo has an offer of some sort for the young second generation superstar? Who knows. All I can say is I’m sure we will find out soon. Maybe even at In Your House 2: Seasons Beatings! Speaking of which, The Outsiders will be there to defend their tag team titles against The Natural Disasters! This Sunday, Christmas comes early and it’s only on Pay Per View! Call your local cable or satellite provider NOW to tell them you’ve gotta see Seasons Beatings!
