Hey everyone,
So, I have been looking over the forum quite a bit and I was wondering a few things that I hope could be cleared up. I hope all of my questions makes sense as I clarify my questions here, however, if you need any more clarification on anything let me know! I'll try to make a question or anything I say here clearer in a reply.
Thanks for answering and clearing these up for me in advance!
So, I have been looking over the forum quite a bit and I was wondering a few things that I hope could be cleared up. I hope all of my questions makes sense as I clarify my questions here, however, if you need any more clarification on anything let me know! - When does the timeframe of the shows actually take place? It seems like it is a vague bubble of the Golden Era but is there a certain understanding of "whereabouts" we should age our characters? For example, if I play Rick Rude, is it my choice to play a grizzled vet or prime Rude? Or is it a scenario where we are around the 1990s and everyone's age ranges around that time / after for young 90s stars (Rock & Chyna's portraits are from 2000 as an example)?
- Is there an expectation for big names to meet and alignment to even out? I ask because I have a few on my list I'm considering trying - but, bluntly, I haven't roleplayed in over 10 years. I had a lot of experience, but now? I may be completely awful. I also remember distinctly complaints about top guys not being top guys in fed way back when. This is also a further layered question for other reasons. I counted and by my count there seems to be more heels than faces. To clarify, I don't believe in tweeners myself so I separated them based on the booking available for Guest to see for each character (meaning I placed Hall and Nash heel from their RAW booking as an example). I believe this could put the booker in a bind, and I would like to help that by being face. In my experience though, it is a pretty hard situation playing a babyface without a name behind it when debuting. Debuting nobodies are historically just generic when placed baby and just squander until they turn to develop a character ("Die Rocky Die" famously in real life). Characters like Jeff Hardy or RVD (high flyer spectacles with cool factor for simplicity here) unfortunately, I found, just don't transfer as cleanly as the roleplays over time favor more dynamic charisma to prevent getting stale (which is more commonly heels or established stars on a debut). However, the debuting star needs weight behind them so they don't die in the water early if they do squander losing matches. It's just a strange balancing act in roleplay and I'm not sure how it's handled here.
- What references to real life are allowed? So, this does tie with the former questions, but if I play Ric Flair can I reference wrestling Bruiser Brody as he often did? Kerry Von Erich, Inoki, etc. Can I do the "I wrestled legends when you were in diapers, pal!" lines? I noticed on RAW Nash and Hall referenced the Fake Diesel and Razor, so how far are we allowed with that?
- Also, adding to the prior questions, is there in universe promotions that we can reference? Like, obviously, Flair was the one that tore down WWF's view of demoting the NWA as second-rate not worth mentioning - and brought himself as the "REAL World Champion." With that said though, would that be possible here on a much smaller scale? Ultimo Dragon level of being a belt collector where it could give sustainability to a babyface character coming in if it has to be a smaller name. Also this ties to UFC. Ken Shamrock coming in can I mention his background to build real traction as a face?
- Tied to question 3, can we play passed away wrestlers without prior permission? Obviously Benoit would be off the table for me personally, but say Eddy Guerrero? Brody? Andre? I am just not sure the protocol going about it here if I decide to go that route.
- Finally, and this has to do with the before 97 rule, how realistic to that time for that character do we have to stick? Like if I did play Guerrero, could I bring him in with Jericho since they tagged quite a bit in WCW for a stretch in 98? Could I bring in Kurt Angle since he showed with ECW in 96 and was offered his 10 year contract with WWE post-Olympics (even though he rejected it in real life)? I actually would much prefer that one to be honest as a big Angle fan and it making sense literally being a rookie year with my inexperience coming back. However, I also don't want to break the 1997 rule and understand if that level of breaking reality might be too much. If there is a yes here though, I'd definitely like a 48 hour dibs on Kurt Angle (just in case I miss your answer tonight / before I'm off work tomorrow).
Thanks for answering and clearing these up for me in advance!
